In their book “The Power of Full Engagement”, psychologists Tony Schwartz and Jim Loehr say that human beings require four sources of energy to operate at their best: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. All are necessary, none is sufficient by itself. They go on to say that the most successful, happy people are fully energised each day because they:

  1. Are totally focussed on creating work which means something to them.
  2. Have positive and deep social interactions with others. Know what drains you and what sustains you. Avoid pity parties, psychic vampires and dream stealers.
  3. Develop spiritual stamina and unleash energy by being authentic and living their truth, so that when a problem occurs they react from wisdom not emotion. Being a professional pretzel on the other hand – twisting yourself to be something you’re not – will leave you unfulfilled and drained of energy.
  4. Develop mental stamina by reflecting, recovering and reigniting at regular intervals. Human beings are not machines. We’re designed to move rhythmically between spending and renewing energy, so focus on managing your energy, not your time.
  5. Develop physical stamina through high intensity interval training, a low carb/high protein diet and resistance training. (I would add intermittent fasting)

….. And in so doing are their own Chief Energy Officer’s.

Sir Tom Jones makes a surprise visit to an old people’s home. But is a little taken aback, as after he’s finished singing "Delilah" (3 min video), none of the residents seem to recognise him.

So he takes an old lady aside and says, “Excuse me, but do you have any idea who I am?"

The old lady replies, "Sorry dear. Ask one of the nurses. They’ll tell you."

And finally, Happy Easter …..

Live big & love deep.
