The old saying, "Mile by mile it’s a trial, yard by yard its hard, but inch by inch it’s a cinch," is true.

University of Toronto Professor Stephen Morris, says that dominoes can knock down things about one-and-a-half times their size, and if you start with a domino just half a centimeter tall, it would take just 29 progressively-larger dominoes to knock over the Empire State Building.

The way to achieve big, long term down goals is to break them down into small short-term steps. This is how Usain Bolt trains.

A year before setting a new World Record of 9.58 seconds at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Bolt’s goal was to consistently run 10.7 seconds in training. A time that was too slow to even qualify for the World Championships. Each week, Bolt’s coach Glen Mills, set a goal of shaving just two hundredths of a second of the previous weeks time. So when Bolt went to his starting blocks in the final, he said he knew that he would not run slower than 9.7 seconds – a time that would have won him the Gold medal.

Getting to the top of the staircase in one leap only happens in Kung Fu movies.

Bolt, Balboa and beings of the human kind, get there one step at a time.

Humour

The Washington Post asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

Here are my favorites:

  1. Bozone – the substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.
  2. Foreploy - any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of acquiring carnal pleasure.
  3. Sarchasm - the gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn’t get it.
  4. Decafalon – the grueling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.
  5. Arachnoleptic fit – the frantic dance performed just after you’ve accidentally walked through a spider web.
  6. Caterpallor – the color you turn after finding half a grub in the fruit you’re eating.
  7. Ignoranus – a person who’s both stupid and an a$$hole.

Have a great week.
