In 2009, there were 247 billion email messages sent per day worldwide.

Out of all these email messages, 81 percent were spam. That means approximately 200 billion emails per day were ignored (The Radicati Group, Inc.2009 .

As the man who brought us the Post-It note, 3M’s Art Fry says, "It’s one thing to have an idea, but if you can’t communicate it to others, you’re dead in the water."

The best communication is short, emotional and adds value.

Take the following examples:

Toyota: "This Toyota will last for many years"

Vs.

"My father drove this Toyota for 100,000 miles without any problems"

iPod: "It has 16Mb of storage capacity"

Vs.

"It can store over 3000 songs"

UNICEF: "£10 will make a real difference"

Vs.

“£10 will feed a family for 10 days"

We all process information through the same instrument: the human brain. But most communication ends up in the brain’s spam filter because it isn’t simple, personal or memorable…..it’s
bland.

Great communication connects the dots between your story and the recipient’s life story; it initiates a relationship…..and if you’re in a relationship before the sale, the sale is far more likely to happen.
